James L. Melchers
has maintained a law practice in Louisiana since 1974. In 1975,
Jim opened his own office as a sole practitioner and has practiced
since then with the assistance of associates. His practice focuses
on estate planning and business law.
Jim graduated from the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He graduated from the University
of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia, S.C. where he earned
his Juris Doctor Degree.
Jim is admitted to practice before
the Louisiana Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern
District of Louisiana, all State District Courts, and all Municipal
Courts.
He is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the South Carolina
Bar Association, as well as the Corporate and Business LawSection,
the Trusts, Estates, Probate and Immovable Property Law Section and the Solo and Small Firms Section of the Louisiana Bar Association.
Additionally, Jim is a member of the NewOrleans Estate Planning
Council and the New Orleans Financial Planning Association. He is
also a licenced Title Insurance Agent.
Over the last 33 years, Jim has been a frequent featured speaker at
seminars and forums, including Money Watch Live and the New Orleans
Estate Planning Day. Jim firmly believes in educating his clients
and the public on various areas of law, and his firm publishes its
own "Legal Briefs" Newsletter. He has authored a monthly
column for a local newspaper for the last 11 years.
Jim has attended the Louisiana State University Annual Estate Planning Seminar, the Annual Family Wealth Conference, the National Business
Institute's seminars, the Louisiana Bar Association seminars for Solo
Practitioners and Small Firms, and the Louisiana Land Title Association
Annual Conference.
Jim enjoys traveling, gardening, exercising, and barbequing. He and Kathy, his wife, have two daughters, one son, one grandson and one granddaughter. The
Melchers live in Metairie.
Pamela
Brookey Lolan
is a trial attorney who has maintained a law practice in Louisiana since 1990. Pam represents plantiffs in a wide variety of matters,
including personal injury resulting from the negligence of another,
malpractice cases, nursing home negligence, personal and medical
contract issues.
Pam graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana with
a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Language. She graduated from the Loyola
University School of Law in New Orleans, LA. where she earned her
Juris Doctor Degree in 1990. She also attended the Universite De
Paul Valory in Montpelier, France and is fluent in French.
Pam is admitted to practice before
the Louisiana Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern
District of Louisiana, the U.S. District Court for the Western District
of Louisiana, all State District Courts, and all Municipal Courts.
Pam is a contributing author to Legal Briefs and the Kenner Star.
Pam is "Of Counsel" with Melchers Law Firm, APC.
Kathy has been an integral part of Melchers Law Firm since 1987. Kathy started her career as a teacher, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of New Orleans .She also owned her own business for several years before coming to Melchers.
As Vice President of Operations, Kathy oversees client services, client communications, and business development. She has been instrumental in improving business processes as well as client satisfaction, and she developed and now manages the Legal Briefs newsletter.
Melchers Law Firm has a strong commitment to the community it serves. Kathy has been associated with Kenner Professional Women’s association (now KPBA) for 17 years. In December 2004, she was honored as Member of the Year. Her commitment to excellence in leadership and teamwork earned her this outstanding award.
